Part of a positive lifestyle is not only feeling good about yourself, but it's also about what you do to take care of yourself each and every day.
You not only want to make the most out of your day, you want to make it a great day.
So, how are you going to do that? We want to give you these 6 easy tips so you will be on your way to a better day and a better lifestyle.
1. Mindset
For better or worse, this is the most important step. Your mindset is not only your attitude in general, it's how you look at things. When you have a positive mindset, everything will be so much better.
How could this possibly be?
Let's say you don't enjoy going to work. If you view work with a negative mindset, you will see people as less friendly, the days will seemingly drone on, and you will be unhappy for those 8 hours of your day. What if you go to work with a positive mindset? If your attitude focuses on the good, you will notice things are brighter, people will seem nicer, and those 8 hours (for once) don't feel like 20. Who wouldn't want that?
You need to be positive and present in everything you do.
You have set your own path, so enjoy the trip!
2. Be Kind
Even though this may seem like a big ask, remember that what you put out into the universe is what you will get back.
You also need to remember that you don't know what path other people have been on today, or throughout their lives. If someone butts in front of you in line, should you freak out? No. You don't know what has happened in their day to get them to that point. If your coworker is rude today, should you decide they are a bad person? Really? After one day? Of course not!
Being kind can help someone more than you may realize. Not reacting poorly is a form of kindness in itself!
Equally, if not more important, you need to be kind to yourself! We tend to forget this, so instead of telling yourself what you haven't accomplished today (or in life), take a step back and look at the amazing things you've done. You deserve to be treated well too! Remember, if you treat yourself with kindness and consideration, other people will see this and follow suit. They are following your example of how to treat you.
No matter what, don't forget to smile. Your smile will speak volumes and make the world a brighter place.
3. Look after yourself
If you don't take care of yourself, how do you plan to get through your day?
If you take care of others as well, how will you be able to this too? Some days it may seem hard, but remember to take a break, eat properly, exercise and get rest.
If you don't think you have time to take a break, think again. You will be much more productive when you have stepped away for a bit, even if it's just for glass of water and a snack. Some days we forget to eat properly, but when you do, you will find your body and mind work better!
Exercise doesn't mean you have to run a marathon every day (unless that is your thing!). A quiet walk after dinner, yoga, or whatever you enjoy will go a long way. Exercise is not only important for physical health, but it is also important for mental health.
Lastly, don't forget to sleep! You may think you function well on four hours of sleep, but how does your body and mind really feel about this? Chances are, they (and those around you) would appreciate more.
4. Organize your day
Have you ever noticed how kids are actually happier with a routine? They won't admit it, but it's true. That's because someone has organized their days and they know what to expect. If only we all had someone to keep us on a schedule like that!
When you don't have a routine, you will find yourself feeling unsettled and not accomplishing what you want. Then you feel frustrated or disappointed when you don't get everything done. This can wear a person down.
Be realistic and don't overfill your day. Start by organizing the things you can control and that are consistent, like your morning routine. If you have unknown tasks, budget more time than you initially think they will take you. This will allow you to accomplish your task and leave you with a sense of satisfaction, and if it went well you may even have some spare time! Suddenly you can get more done and feel good about yourself.
Anyways, it's better to feel like a speedy super-hero!
5. Be realistic and still flexible
As you master #4 above (organizing your day) you need to remember you can't control everything.
What?? Really.
There will be days that go completely as planned and others that couldn't go further off course if you tried. Guess what? That's life.
To start with, you need to be honest with yourself, in that you can't control every single thing and you can only get done what you can. Accept that and plan for the next day.
If you are realistic, by not over-scheduling, and accept that you can't control everything by being flexible, you will be more satisfied with your day. It always feels better to accomplish 2 things and get them off your to-do list, rather than have half-finished 5 things and feel unfulfilled.
6. Do what you love
How many times have you heard this?
Even though we've all heard it, you need to remember it's true. It is much easier to get up in the morning when you enjoy what you are doing. Even though we may not all have our dream jobs, there are ways that we can make our job so much better.
Sure, we all have chores that maybe aren't our favorite. I have only met a couple of people that actually like to clean toilets, but if you make the most of it, you will find it goes faster.
Always remember to focus on having a positive attitude in everything you do. This will not only effect how you look at things (and people), but how others will look at you in return. It will also help you to have to best days possible and that is the point! Enjoy every day and be grateful for everything around you.
If you follow these 6 steps everyday, you can work your way to being happier, every day!
